I never thought much about this until I moved back to Georgia after being gone for many years. The entire landscape in the south has changed with the flood of immigrants. I'm just not talking about Mexican faces... I'm talking about the *system* has completely changed. When I went to get a driver's license in this state, they now require a *birth certificate* ... ten years ago when I lived here before I just walked into the DMV and asked for a license, but now you have to *prove* that you are a citizen of this country to do anything. That is only the tip of the iceberg. Everywhere I have gone while looking for a job the standard question on every application now is "are you bi-lingual" or this "is English your first language"... they are now *assuming* that I am a Mexican and cannot speak English when I am applying for a job through the unemployment office. Everyone I saw working at the unemployment office was Mexican or Hispanic, with the exception of one black case worker. We are living in a much, much different world.
